The cost of communication within South Africa can be very costly specifically af- fecting people living within low-income housing where the monthly is the minimum. These people are living on less than US 1 dollar per day. Mobile network operators offer various price plans and promotions on prepaid SIM cards where users are of- ten informed of these promotions and price plans in confusing ways. Customers are often informed of these promotions and price plans via in print pamphlets and news- papers, online and sometimes within applications. Many mobile network operators use an advertising method called Bait and Switch. This means that the customer is attracted to a low-priced package but ends up spending more than advertised. For example, a customer is drawn towards an affordable data package, once they have successfully topped up their data, they receive an SMS from their mobile network operators stating that if they double their data by a certain date they will receive the doubled amount for free. This means that the customer actually ends up spending more than they should by misleading them into thinking that they are saving or that they are receiving something for free. It is therefore very important that customers are informed of exactly how much they are spending on their price plans. Users should choose the correct price plan which consists of promotions which could help users save the amount of money spent monthly on SMS, data and calls. Many users are often unaware of the promotions offered by their network or price plan. Through a software solution, users are able to run USSD codes to determine which price plan they are on as well as the promotions and specials offered to them. The software itself will run the USSD code and return the price plan to the user. User’s are able to perform the following functions: View information about their price plans, view call history and cost of each call and view current promotions offered by their provider. Data will be stored in the background such as the users call logs where the cost of each call will be calculated by the software and the total cost will be presented to the user. This will enable users to access their call logs and history to be able to track how much they are spending. This web application aims to reveal the actual cost of the users price plan.
